In his 1836 book On the Mental Illumination and Moral Improvement of Mankind, Reverend Thomas Dick calls the peacock “the most beautiful bird in the world.” But throughout history, there has always been more to the peacock than its dazzling plumage. The male peacock’s plumage of shimmering blues and greens fascinate even as its raucous cries seem so at variance with such beauty.

The peacock is a symbol of immortality. The Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras wrote that the soul of Homer moved into a peacock, perhaps reflecting on the importance of the centuries-old popularity of the Greek poet. While continuing to keep its association with wealth, the bird, which replaces its feathers every year, also became a symbol of renewal and resurrection in early Christian and Byzantine culture. Peacock imagery appears in early Christian tomb paintings and mosaics, especially concerning the resurrection.

Baby flamingos are gray or white. It takes about three years to get their pink and red feathers. Adult flamingos' feathers range from light pink to bright red due to their food supply. They live in and around lagoons or lakes. As very social bird, they live in colonies of thousands of birds. Their life expectancy is between 20 to 30 years in the wild or up to 50 years in a zoo. There was an old greater flamingo that lived to be 83 YEARS OLD at the Adelaide Zoo in Australia. Flamingos are monogamous by nature, and only lay around one egg per year. Flamingo is a celebrated bird and Don Featherstone invented the iconic pink plastic lawn flamingo first went on sale in 1958 and it is as popular today as it was decades ago. They can be easily spotted in the Bahamas, Aruba, and Cuba, along the coasts of other Caribbean islands and the adjacent coasts of Central and South America. Regular wild vagrants travel as far north as Florida and are often sighted in Everglades National Park or elsewhere in southern Florida.

Once a male and female parrot get together, then they generally stay together, even outside of the breeding season.

Back in the 1960s a shipment of parrots was accidently released from JFK Airport. So till today, you can still spot wild parrots in New York (Brooklyn and Long Island) from time to time.
